FAIRY GLEN

A short drive from home took us on through the valley to the foothills of the mountain and it was from here we embarked on our walk a week ago.

We set off from this tiny hamlet, comprising of a cluster of cottages and an ancient church which looked exquisite bathed in September sunshine and autumn colours. As I've often said, the sound of running water is ever present in this area, so the very least I expected was to see a mountain stream on our walk.

What we did encounter was way beyond my expectations, yes, we quickly came upon a mountain stream tumbling its way over rocks and, as you've seen before in pictures I've posted, the banks were mossy and shaded by the overhanging trees with glints of sun shining through the leaves. However, I can only describe what lay before us as the most magical of sights, a fairy glen of mossy greenness with a series of white tumbling water falls.

The pathway we took closely hugged the side of the stream as we made our way ever upwards. The air had a wonderful smell of earthy dampness and it was difficult to hear each other speak over the sound of falling water. There were times when, we were so close to the side of the waterfall, we could touch the icy water as it cascaded over sheer rocky drops and other places where deep pools reflected inky darkness.

Strangely shaped rock formations stood like totem poles standing sentinel along the banks. This magical place could easily have been taken from a fairy tale about goblins and elfin creatures and yet it was so incredibly beautiful, however, its not a place I could walk alone.

I can do no better than let me pictures show this captivating and yet mysterious scenery.

I love going for walks like this- when l have the time. I love the fresh mossy smell, knarled old trees and dappled shade. Puck's Glen is a close walk for us here- just a short climb and a different world. Wee Sam finds this place magical. Glad you enjoyed your ramble. :)
Keep well.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures with us.
I'm glad you're feeling well enough to go on little jaunts like this. It's so good for the senses to get out into the fresh air, and this place must surely be a great mood booser!
Did you take any pictures of the cottages and church?
We're having wonderful September sunshine today!

I shall return to these lovely photos time and again throughout the coming months when I want to be transported to somewhere cool, green and damp, ie. a long way from here.

Marion - that really does look like somewhere from a storybook. I'm just trying to imagine the sound of the waterfalls.

Thank you so much for sharing your delightful walk with us.

I have come to your blog site a few times now (I even emailed you) - the places you visit and now this one have actually given me a lump in my throat from their beauty. As one who loves and believes in faeries this does indeed look like a place they would dwell. How lucky you are to have such places for a bit of a wander about. It's nice to meet you Marion and I look forward to more of your nature walks.

Oh Marion,
You have a beautiful site. I never got my wish {to live in England} but I certainly feel like I'm there by viewing all the pictures that you have posted of your country. From the story of "The ghost of Minster Lovell to the beautiful sceneries of sheep grazing in winding country sides of Heredfordshire, the quaint villages of the Cotswolds and the Mossy Fairy's Glen and the churchyard surrounded by mossy icing.....just breathtakingly beautiful! You have a lovely home and I love George!!!Nice to have found you!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog Marion. We are 10 months behind in Coronation Street! It`s just been Christmas 2005 and Danny is plotting against Mike to get the business. Terrible man! Both my husband and me watch a half hour episode each weeknight faithfully. Best show on tv!
Your blog is wonderful.
