OLD BIRD CAGE

Look what I bought from our local charity shop last Saturday. I spotted it first the day before, but then I wasn’t sure where I could display it, so I didn’t bother. Well, as the day progressed I kept thinking about this wooden birdcage, then later, whilst having a coffee in the conservatory, I found just the place. Of course, by this time the shop had closed and I was quite convinced that I’d find by tomorrow, it had been sold.

Next morning, just gone 9am I phoned and asked, ‘Do you still have the bird cage I saw yesterday’. ‘Yes’, the girl said, ‘its still here, I’ll put it to one side for you to collect later’. I was delighted!

So here it is on a shelf in the conservatory and I love it. My first thoughts were to put a trailing plant inside, but on closer inspection the door is too small. You’ll see if you click to enlarge the picture I have placed a little posy of silk flowers and two of my favourite angels inside, but I’ve just got to remove them, poor things look imprisoned.

Oh it's beautiful! When your thoughts keep going back to an item like you did with that, you just know you have to have it! I had to smile when you described the things inside as imprisoned. You'll think of just the right thing to go inside, in time, I'm sure. Great find!

The birdcage is a wonderful find Marion..truly unique, and so pretty. You're right about the angels, they need to be freed :)But the silk flowers are pretty.
I'm so glad the cage was still there and you found a nice spot for it.

The bird cage is wonderful! I have a lot of birdhouses decorating my house, but no cages - I'll have to keep my eyes open for a nice one like yours. If you have it near some natural light, maybe a live plant would look nice...

Marion the cage is a real treasure find indeed! Like Wildflower Cabin I too believe that in time an idea will pop up. I had to laugh when you described phoning the shop to put it aside; I was picturing me doing the very same thing a while back with an old English poetry book. You are very lucky to have been able to grab it. It usually never happens too often but when it does its heavenly! Enjoy your lovely bird cage.

Dear Marion,
I am always attracted to one of these when I go to the antique mall here. They have it displayed with an array of silk flowers with some vines showing through.

Any way you have it...The piece is lovely.

Take care,
Connie
