MY MYSTERY PLANT...

I’ve watched with great interest a certain plant grow in my garden. I don’t recall planting it and I’ve checked through a number of books and I can’t find a picture of it either. Its a plant I don’t recall ever seeing before.

Its been an interesting transformation, for what initially looked like green flowers have since turned yellow, and look related to the pea family. There is a cluster of flowers at three leaf joints along the stem.

I would be very happy if anyone can inform me what this attractive plant is. I would imagine that it’s a hardy perennial, as I first noticed it in early spring, so it is something that has over wintered in this spot.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who can name this plant. You can click on picture and enlarge for more detail.

Marion, I have never seen this plant before. It is pretty though. Did you try going on line and looking for it.??
Thanks for stopping by and reading about Betty. They are transferring her to Hospice tomorrow. I don't know if you know what that is but it is a wonderful place where you can go if you choose when you are terminal. It is a home environment with nurses right there to help with your every need. I have not seen the inside yet but I will soon of course. She was about the same today but looks so fragile. Thanks for stopping by. Sandy

Marion, what a beautiful flower....I have no idea what it is.....it has a strong desire to live as it came back after a cold winter......

I've been working outside today and sadly it's dry weather again so I have to water.....

Happy gardening......Betty

Good morning
could your plant possibly be a phlomis russeliana??? If so, it would be a hardy perennial.
Have a nice day!

Barbara.....
You are absolutely correct and I do thank you. I’ve just checked your suggestion in my RHS Encyclopaedia of Plants and I see an exact picture of my plant. That’s wonderful!!! Its difficult to set about finding more about a plant when you don’t have any name to start with. I’m pleased to read that Phlomis russeliana has a long flowering period too and slugs are not attracted to it either (that’s a big problem I have here). It certainly looks good at the back of my border and I can take cuttings or divide it in autumn.
Barbara I hope you call back to receive my thanks, I don’t think you have your own blog and I don’t have your email to allow me to thank you personally. I note you live in Switzerland too, I wonder where? Marion

Thank you Sigrun too. I thought you would know with your good knowledge of plants. I’m very happy to have Phomis russeliana mysteriously appear in my garden. Marion

Hello Marion
funny, I also looked at the RHS encyclopaedia, it is my favourite book to search plants. However, I found "your" plant in the garden of my friend, therefore I came to the name. Besides, if you click on my name, you should come to my garden blog. Unfortunately it isn't in English (not yet, maybe later'!). I have just started with blogging....
Bye, bye, Barbara

Hello again Barbara.....
So pleased that you received my ‘thanks’. I had already tried clicking on your name, but its not taking me to your blog. I would love to have the link to it. If you don’t want to leave it in my comments, then you will find my e-mail address in my profile. Hope to hear from you. Marion

The world of blogging is wonderful to put a picture out there and have someone quickly identify it!
It's a great addition to your garden!

Beautiful plant! I am going to try nematodes for the slugs because I'm fed up with pellets - I've got masses of the blighters! Glad you got an ID.

Oh how great that the mystery is already solved! :D The plant looks great though! Hugs Carol xox

Don't you love volunteers? This plant is new to me too Marion. I'm glad a couple of blog friends could identify it so quickly for you.
Two of my roses have begun to bloom, and the new ones that I planted last fall have all survived and are budding. That makes me very happy :)
We've had a very dry spring, but had a storm, and some welcome rain last night.

I think this could be a Bergamot. Certainly Bergamot looks just like this but the one I have had was red flower but looking exactly the same otherwise.
