EARLY AUTUMN DAYS

Good Morning Blogging friends. What a glorious warm sunny morning we are blessed with today. It was such a joy to walk around the garden and experience the different smells these early days of Autumn bring.

I heard laughter and the voices of children as they walked up the hill, its their first day back at school after the long summer holiday. They seemed happy enough. As I embraced the moment, it brought to mind this little verse which I think sums up this day very well.
I hope the sun shines on you today too.

The Breeze tastes of apple peel
The air is full of smells to feel -
Ripe fruit, old footballs, burning brush,
New books, erasers, chalk and such.
The bee, his hive, well-honeyed hum
And Mother cuts chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean, with suds, the days
Are polished with a morning haze.

What a great verse for Fall. Living here in South east USA it is not quite the same as when we lived in Illinois and the air turned crisp in the Fall. That poem really was like that there. Here is stays warm for a LONG time into November. I guess I miss that cool crisp Fall weather. Hope all is well with you. I miss you when you don't post. Sandy

Hi Marion, nice to read you! First day after school holidays, yes, I know it.
Today we have silly weather - sun and rain, wind and sun, I can not work in my garden.

Good morning Marion! How lovely it was to hear from you.
It's the first day of school here today. We've been having beautiful weather too, giving me lots of opportunity to work in the gardens.
I love your apples...beautiful picture...and the poem embodies all the lovely things about Autumn.
For my elderberry/apple jelly I use 1 cup of apple juice (I just mix up the frozen concentrate or use bottled apple juice) and 2 cups of elderberry juice for each batch. You could easily use half and half..I don't think it matters much.
Enjoy your day dear friend xoxo

Marion,
I don't know how I found your blog, but it's an answer to prayer. I fell in love with England and Wales when I started reading Rosamunde Pilcher novels years ago. I've always wanted to spend summers in the Cotswolds. (I'm from upstate NY.)) I would love to have a cup of tea with you- I collect old English teapots and cups and saucers, and my husband and I remodel houses. Your house sounds absolutely charming.
Have a lovely day!

Hello, I am another one who just came across your blog and the worlds "Cotswolds" and "Wales" got my immediate attention! I've been enjoying all your gorgeous photos...I've added your blog to my "favorites" but if you are concerned about that, let me know and I'll delete it. I am looking forward to seeing more of the beautiful place where you live.

I love this time of year in the garden. My favourite place is to be in an apple orchard.

Dear Friend Marion,
I'm still basking in the warm glow of your phone call this afternoon. Was wonderful to talk to you again.....

When the leaves begin to fall in late September and October and we have piles of leaves burning then I know fall is really here. I like that time of the year.....soup days and time to get the socks and sweaters out. Wouldn't it be a dull world if we didn't have seasons? God is so gracious to us.....Take care....Betty

Marion-
I'm off to the library to get those two books you recommended by Susan Hill. Thank you!
(By the way, do you care for the character, Hyacinth Bucket (" it's Bouquet!") on the British show Keeping Up Appearances? I laugh whenever I watch it- and you know how good that is for the soul!
Blessings to you, my new friend.

Autumn is a wonderful season, although I suspect that we may look forward to it a little more than you do. We're always happy to feel the relief from the heat, and our autumns last for many weeks before the cold sets in. I'm sure it's a beautiful time of year no matter where you are, and it's great to appreciate each day, not matter what it may bring.
