Berne

A very cold but enjoyable day taking in the many interesting sights of Switzerland's capital city. Berne is situated on the river Aare and is the seat of the national government. The old town, which dates back to the 12th century is really beautiful and quite unspoiled. It was such a delight to wander along the cobbled streets, passing the famous clock tower, the 15th century Minster and the many elaborate fountains, as we made our way down to the bear pit. The bear is Berne's heraldic symbol. It was good to see that the bears looked happy and well cared for and all three of them had lovely healthy brown coats.

Oh Berne must be a beautiful city, I've never been there so far. Lovely photos! The bear is hopefully living in the zoo and not free in Berne city ;-)

The bears of Berne live in a bear pit in the city. A nice habitate for them and of course its secure.

We loved the view along the river in Berne, although we've only been there in the summer, so it looks rather different with snow on the ground.
